The following lessons were given by enthusiasts on how to use an RV refrigerator
Prepare before you leave. Before the RV hits the road, pre-cool the food pantry by first filling it with non-perishable foods, such as bottled mineral water, and keeping the refrigerator in operation for 3 hours or more.
Then put in perishable food items, being careful to leave enough space around them and never overstuff them.
For driving safety, use a 12V supply during your time on the road, which cools just as well as on gas or mains electricity. In campgrounds, the mains voltage is sometimes unstable and a supply below 190V will affect the operation of the refrigerator. If the mains power does not cool well, reverting to gas operation may improve performance if the caravan is using a tri-energy fridge.
When the refrigerator is running, ensure that the heat sink at the rear of the food storage compartment is not obstructed. The refrigerator radiates heat from the outer shell; do not cover it with objects.
Be careful when using gas for the refrigerator
RV-specific refrigerators can run on both types of LPG, and it is strongly recommended that you do not use gas when traveling in your trailer due to the safety hazards. In addition, special care should be taken as open flames are generally prohibited at gas stations, highway service areas and tunnels.
Attention is also required when the power supply is interrupted. If you are towing a caravan and sometimes encounter a power interruption for a period of time when you are detached from the trailer, it is a good idea to empty out perishable food beforehand and purchase fresh produce when you arrive at your destination.
Caring for your RV refrigerator while it sits idle
Empty the RV refrigerator during periods of inactivity; food left in the refrigerator for long periods of time can contaminate it. After disconnecting and defrosting, the refrigerator needs to be cleaned with a soft cloth and a warm detergent solution.
Finally, wipe it with a cloth and water, then wipe it with a dry cloth. If there is a strong odor in the refrigerator, you can place a deodorizer in the refrigerator if it cannot be removed by cleaning.
